While reading Xylene’s post on dreams, I started to ponder over the dreams which my brain cooks up while I am fast asleep. Earlier, I used to remember quite a lot of them but now a days, the memories just fade away too soon to grasp as soon as I wake up. Guess, I am getting old. My dreams are very vivid and colorful and yes, weird by all means.

So, here are my top four personal favourites from my kitty of dreams which I remember with all the minute details because of various reasons, one of them being that they scared the shit out of me. Here goes –

  • I am sitting on the top stair of a stairway and someone is climbing the stairs and coming towards me. I can see the feet, the dangling palms and my own terrified face. He catch hold of my hand and drags me down the stairs, very much like the vamp dragging the heroine out of her husband’s house. I am crying and pleading and its hurting like hell and there is blood all over my legs as I reach the bottom of the stairs.
[ The dream ends here and I wake up completely terrified. This was a recurring dream for a long time and I could never understand the significance. ]
  • I am in a deep sleep when a whisper wakes me up. Its my mother calling me, slowly in a very soft whisper. I get up and see her standing next to my bed. Its very dark but I can still make her our. There is something terribly wrong with her. Her face is twisted and her hair are all over her face. Her hands are lurching forward towards my neck and the nails are longer than usual. Her feet are not on the ground but twisted backwards from the knee and she is floating in air, inches above the ground. She floats towards me and I scream in horror and run towards my sister’s room. I open the door and call her name and there she is, floating towards me and hands stretched out. I run towards the master bedroom where I am confident of hearing my father’s glass shattering snores, but before I reach there I wake up. [ I was drenched in sweat when this one finished and was constantly looking at the female population in the house with suspicion for a few days. ]
  • I wake up and look outside the window of my bedroom. Our house now stands in the middle of the ocean. I get up hurriedly and look out of each and every window but all I can see is water all around. Suddenly Pirate ships appear and start attacking each other with cannons, with our house standing in the middle of this attack [ This dream came much before “Pirates of the Caribbean” was released. Gore Verbinski must not have even thought about the concept when I encountered this dream ]. Anyways, the fight intensifies and soon many of the pirates were flooding our house to save themselves. I and my family were the innocent victims who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. We try to help and save as many pirates as possible and our house is hit by the cannon balls too. Soon the fight is over and we are left with a half broken house in the middle of the ocean and a few sinking ships around the house. One thing which I very distinctly remember is the glittering water in sunlight when I looked out of the bedroom window. That scene was spectacular.
  • I am with my sister at the terrace and we are playing with the stars. We are arranging them in the sky in various patterns with the motion of our fingers and they move according to our command. I motion a group of stars to fly like birds across the sky while my sister commands a few of them to fall like shooting stars. Suddenly the sky is covered with very dark clouds and all the stars vanish. My mother comes and tell us to stop playing with the stars and get inside as she is having a very bad feeling about this. We move inside the house and suddenly the sky is filled with alien ships. We stare at them in horror as the aliens start descending and start marching on the road in front of our house. We can see a lot of our neighbours who are being pulled out of their houses are killed. One of the alien turn and see me and my sister watching them through a half opened door on the terrace. He breaks away from the formation and plunge towards us and enters our house as we run away screaming. [ This is where I wake up ]

I could never understand what those dreams meant. They might be my mind’s reaction to various facts and incidences collected by my subconsciousness. They might be a lot of Neurons overworking. Till date, there is no concrete theory on the occurrence of dreams. The only thing known is that most of the dreams occur during the REM(Random Eye movement) sleep, when the eyes flutter beneath the closed eyelids. That is why we always remember the dream if we wake up suddenly during this period. And maybe that’s why I remembered those dreams.

Anyways, I am moving back to Delhi tomorrow. My friends here are sad, I am sad, my mom is reacting the way a spider would react who has just spotted an entrapped fly in his web and I think all this is a dream. But more on it later. πŸ™‚

LOL, all I can say about this is that you really need to stop watching Ekta Kapoor serials, sci-fi movies and scary movies. Trust me, they are doing you no good. Instead, watch Emraan Hashmi’s movies. You’ll get better dreams, I’m positive. πŸ˜›

The fourth dream was very cute, you know. It reminded me of that Airtel ad in which the dad and the girl make drawings with the stars. It was a really cute ad. But you ruined it with the aliens. Quit watching Independence Day type of movies, tera dimaag kharaab ho raha hai, I’m telling you. πŸ˜›

I’ll tell you one of my all time favorite dreams. This was about a girl I had a crush on a few months back. It was a huge crush, I was totally into her. So one day, in my dream, there was a fete party in her school. And kids from all schools were invited. I’ve seen her school actually, so it was a real dream. So, me and my friend went to the fete. My motive was to find her. And finally I did. I saw that she was running on a treadmill in one corner of the ground(wtf?!). So I went towards her, and gave a smile. Suddenly, the expression on her face changed. And she somehow started growing bigger in size. You know like those aliens and all? So, she started growing. I was just standing there dumbfounded and my friend came from behind and said, “saale bhaag” and the next thing I know I was running with my friend and she was running after us. That’s where the dream ended. 😐

And yay, you’re coming to delhi! That’s closer to Ludhiana. I’m happy. πŸ˜€

Nice man πŸ™‚ I think you are feeling incomfortable or insecured about something. Thats why in all your dreams you are the victim. For me, most of the dreams depends on the issue which will impress or scare me in recent memory. So atlast you are leaving Chennai with out selecting your love life πŸ˜‰

OMG πŸ˜€ very very vivid dreams!! Nowadays I also dont remember most of my dreams. In childhood I used to often dream about treasure hunts with intricate details and all but always..always in the end mom woke me up for school. I also dreamed of banquets and luncheons πŸ˜€ Once I dreamed of ghost of a small girl playing in my room and once a spirit looking over my face while I’m sleeping..both times I assume I was dreaming though i remember I felt I was half awake half asleep and never felt such spine chilling fear. Weird experience. I’ve also dreamed once that my mom is trying to kill me πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Ur recurring dream somehow seems to me that u r afraid of falling (failing) from what u have achieved…afraid of some people might hinder ur ambitions. πŸ˜€ thats just my view.

So moving to Delhi..Changing job are you?

All my dreams consists of just one theme. That iam being chased by someone. That im in some sort of trouble. That i have screwed up something and am in deep shit.

Never had a pleasant dream. Initially used to be disturbed after waking up. Now, i dont even care.

cool wouldn’t be the word I would use, but ur dreams are full of “hollywood” fantasies……
Pretty scary dreams, how do u deal with them? I wouldn’t be able to sleep for a while if i got that 2nd dream………..

β€œThe sleeping mind can see hours, even days ahead of the waky mind. In sleep, we see the future by bringing out intuition to bear on the present, turning in visible signs and influences into the puzzling images of our night lives”

I read it in the dictionary of dreams πŸ™‚

the second one is really funny πŸ˜†
wish if i could see something like the last one..thtz really sweet πŸ™‚
N i have also had dreams like the first one…i dreamt the same thrice πŸ™

The only suggestion is stop being so filmy. All the movies you watch and all the novels you read are completely taking over our mind while you are awake and now in your dreams too. πŸ™‚

Hey Amit, nice suggestion by Atipriya and Sujani for you πŸ˜‰

  14. Amit June 8, 2008 at 10:40 am - Reply

@Everyone : Guys, I won’t be regular for a few days. So, don’t worry if I don’t comment on your blogs at times. πŸ™‚ I might be listening to all my Mom’s Gyan most of the times. πŸ™‚
@Ish : If I start watching Imran Hashmi’s movies, i’ll end up dreaming about copulating monkeys. πŸ˜› Arree, mera dimag bilkul theek hai and I really enjoyed those dreams. Although they were scary enough to wake me up. Its like the roller coster rides. You are scared but you enjoy. πŸ™‚
And, about your dream, I saw a similar Celvin Hobbes strip, where Calvin starts imagining that he is expanding. I think, you must have watched Prisoner of Azkaban when you saw that dream. πŸ˜›
Yup, I am in Delhi now, trying to cope up. πŸ™
@wasshappening : Yes it was scary but I must have watched some nonsense movie. πŸ˜€ And I have heard that what you see in your dreams can be interpreted. There are books also on this but I haven’t studied it in detail. Must be fascinating…
@Vijaya Bharat : Yup, I am in Delhi now. πŸ˜€ These dreams came at various stages of my life. Heck!!! I don’t even remember what came when. πŸ˜€
@Reema : Yes, some dreams are very vivid and we remember them when we wake up but then they start fading away as seconds pass.
//I’ve also dreamed once that my mom is trying to kill me
    You too??? Hahaha.
And nope, I am not changing job. just managed to get a transfer. πŸ˜€
    @Xylene : I hope so because I don’t want them to be premonitions. πŸ˜€
@Liju Philip : Never had a plesant dream?? And there is no need to take dreams seriously. We don’t even know why they exist. It will be like taking a thought of an alien invasion seriously.
@Perx : Yes I too believe that they are nothing more than that. And after the second dream, I too was awake for a long time and was quite suspicious that my Mon and Sis were ghosts in reality. πŸ™‚
@Allirekha : You think alien invasion is sweet?? πŸ˜› And, I read your post. The poem was great. Sorry I forgot to put this “poem” comment in your post. πŸ˜›
@Atipriya : hehehe. Thanks. πŸ˜€ Will try to do that but then life would be so boring. πŸ™
@Riddhima : I have heard that if you see someone dying in a dream, then that person has a very long life. πŸ˜€ And no that Imran Hashmi’s comment was not cool. πŸ˜›
    @Sujani : Thanks. πŸ˜€ But seriously, I can’t give them up. πŸ˜›

hmm…they all seem to end with destruction…might be you fear you will destroy what you love…you should try and find the origin of these dreams…they will help you in life…these are our inner self’s way of telling what is happening…also from the alien ship’s thing it is obvious, you want to influence the whole world and do things to change it,but the “aliens” you are sure are going to come after you…i.e. you think you have enemies but cannot see them…and in between a pirate battle, well you want some adventure in your life, which is “once in a life time type’,but aren’t sure how you want it maybe ….

You dreams scare me. Even though I’ve had some horrom dreams but they were much less spooky.

There is probably a book called ‘The Interpretation of Dreams” by “Sigmond Freud”. Maybe you can read that and write a nice summary, will be helpful for a lot of people, including me πŸ˜‰

I wonder if I should congratulate you for your transfer to delhi or not (can’t make out from your tone)

  17. Abha June 9, 2008 at 9:22 am - Reply

Hey Amit…………..Gud to know that u r back in Delhi!!!
n bout these dreams….man u r searching for ur love life n seeing such dreams! Come On, dream of something more romantic so that we can say “Aameen” to ur dreams! Its all coz of the English movies u r hooked to–scary, haunting.

hahaha… scary mom! sometimes even my mom freaks me out too, but usually, i’m awake at those times! hehe… well, have a nice trip! πŸ™‚

PS: I wonder if you ever told your mother about these dreams.

  20. Amit June 9, 2008 at 10:43 pm - Reply

@Vishesh : Yes, I have thought a lot about them but I think its reality which makes us face our fears and not our dreams. πŸ™‚
@Anand : Yes, I will love to read a book on dreams, but without taking it seriously. πŸ˜‰ And I am happy-sad because of my transfer. You know, mixed feelings. πŸ™‚ Yes, I have told my mom about my dreams, but I don’t think she remembers now. πŸ™‚
@Abha : Thanks Abha. πŸ˜€ If I start dreaming about the girl, then I would go mad. Let me search for her in reality. πŸ™‚
@Nikhil : Yeah, scary mom. Well, all of them are like that. πŸ˜‰ Yup, the trip is over and it was nice.
