Hi. My name is Sherley. I am a pigeon and I have been born and brought up in a place called Delhi. I can speak and read English, just like Dory in Finding Nemo. I have known Amit from the last two months. I come to eat grains on his terrace where his mom put the grains every morning. We have been friends since then. He tells me about his life and I tell him about mine(although there isn’t much to tell from my side except my affairs).

Yesterday I was flying over a place which they called Connaught Place. It was a beautiful place with lights, fountains and smiling people enjoying themselves. Suddenly there was a blinding flash of light(which Amit termed as a bomb blast later, although I am still not sure how they do that) and everything turned dark. People were running here and there. There was chaos. People were dying. I sat on a building watching the scene below and trying to understand what was happening. I heard someone say that there were more blasts. More blood. More people died.

My mind was in a whirlpool. I asked Amit about it the next day. He was very angry. He told me that all this was happening for a piece of land. He said that we should give back that wretched land which has taken so many lives and ask all the terrorists to fu*k off.

“Will people stop dying then?”, I asked him.

“It’s not that easy. Even if India separates from that chunk, other people will start demanding for their separate lands and then we will be having terrorists from some other places killing people who don’t give a shit about all this. People who just want to live happily with their families, buy groceries, get married and have kids.”, he said.

He told me that humans can’t live in an Utopian society. It won’t work. He asked me if I was able to understand what he was saying. I told him very frankly that none of this made much sense to me. We fight only for females. If a pigeon has made a nest on a tree, no other pigeon will come and kill him to occupy that nest. True that cats kill us, but they are a different specie and we are their food. They don’t kill us for fun.

They say that 30 people died yesterday. People who were just out there buying something or having a good time with their family. Amit was not smiling no matter how good a joke I told him to cheer him up. He asked me to leave him alone for some time. I asked him to take care and flew to a high branch. As I saw the crowd of humans below, I was fascinated by their lifestyle. They have made such great inventions. They have cars, TV, medicines, mobiles, movies, aeroplanes, rockets and so many other things which my species cannot even think of conceptualising. But then what is the point of having all this when you can’t trust your own species. A pigeon lives in the fear that a cat might kill him. A human lives in the fear that another human might kill him. Isn’t that a pity?

Amit once told me that he could never understand why God took away the Dinosaurs. He said that they were more intelligent than humans. I think he is right because from what I saw yesterday, I think even a mosquito is more intelligent. Too much of a brain is a bad thing, I guess. It allows you to divide all that which does not need division. It allows you to create all that which should have never been created. It allows you to be turned into someone who should never have existed.

Thank God I am a pigeon. A “stupid” bird who just eats, sleeps, have sex and bring up their kids. A very boring life by human standards. *chuckles*

Now off I go to fly high in the free sky.

    Nice post man. I read in IBN that in last 8 yeats we lost 650 people in terrorist attacks. One of the main thing I want to tell is the policies we are following are not appliable now. Not invading any country since 10000 years and etc are good only to hear. These only shows that we are only defensive which is not acceptable as per me.

    Amit, your post is so opposite to being pigeon eyed. I like your take on big issues.
    Whoever said that life as a human is superior to that of other beings, bah. I’d rather be a pigeon. Make out, make a mess and fly!

    Hmm I would rather be the cat! ๐Ÿ˜€ And u know first I read the name Shefaly! I was like ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I re-read and was relieved. That goes on to show our eyes do take in the first and last letters of a word to interpret it…as proven in an email.

    OK now serious and relevant comment, good post! It was kinda unique to write about ur POV like this. One thing to notice is that the holy month of Ramzan is going on in which Muslims abstain from everything evil no? But as we can see now religion is neither the issue nor the binding factor. These are just a group of psychotic killers with lots of funds and manpower.

    Did u know that Alfred Nobel made all his money making weapons of war?
    Oppenheimer regretted the whole los alamos experiment
    sukarov did too

    It takes time for humans to realise their folly
    the question i ask is why r u so shocked ?
    i agree with ldeal
    if pigeons had the capability to make advanced weapons
    they would have destroyed the world 3 times over fighting over a female pigeon
    I had a mini nitemare with very horny pigeons recently
    i swear if i had a gun i would have shot a few

    The ideology of these folks is quite scary though , and even gandhi would have no solution to it

    No religion teaches hatred and killing of innocent people. So if they were really following their religion, they wouldn’t have committed such gruesome act at all.

    I do not know what to say here? The post indeed brought out your thoughts and those of many more. But, personally I have nothing to add to it.

    Indians are known all over to be the proudest most of their origin and country. Sometimes I wonder should we really be proud of being Indian or of being born in this country? I wonder.

    @Idealistard : Yes. ๐Ÿ™‚ I forgot that. I wanted to show Pigeons in a brighter light. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Vijaya Bharat : India has always been defensive. Infact our politicians have always been defensive. That was the major reason why POK was created. And are you sure its 650? The number is more than that.

    @Priti : No they won’t. They are either brainwashed lunatics or greedy moneyminded pigs.

    @Nikhil : Hi Nikhil. Sherley here. I just narrated what I wanted to say and Amit wrote it. I don’t know how to use wordpress. I am a dumb pigeon. ๐Ÿ˜›

    @Nita : Thanks Nita. ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Priyank : Life as a human can never be superior till we stop spilling blood like water. Till then, we are very far away from being a superior race.

    @Reema : Shefaly the pegion?? ๐Ÿ™‚ That is a nice one. I don’t think the people who do all this belong to any religion. They just want money.

    @Prax : Yes, and all the money which goes as prize in Nobel Awards come from that. Ironical? If Pegions had brains and they would have done the same things then we might have had a war between the Pigeons and humans. ๐Ÿ˜›

    @Lively : ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Preeti : Thanks Preeti. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, God knows.

    @Sindhu : Thanks. Yes, sad indeed.

    @Vishesh : Yes, we might go the Russia way. But what happened after that? They are still fighting.

    @Allirekha : If we could do that, we would be as intelligent as pigeons.

    @Suda : Thanks Suda. I should have named him Shefaly, but he is a male. ๐Ÿ˜›

    @Gemini Ramamurthy : Yes, when that happened for the first time, I immediately called up my connection provider to password protect my WIFI. I think it should be made mandatory because its a serious threat. Thanks for dropping by.

    @Mahak : Yes, it was in 2005. Pity that we let it happen again. And I don’t know why, but the way televiion channels keep on showing the dead bodies is really sad. You can’t forget it even if you are trying to.

    @Sakhi : Yes, its for “that” piece of land. Although I am not sure what they are after now. Or is it too regular for them to stop now?

    @Bikash : Thanks.

    @Dinesh Babu : That is one thing we fail to understand again and again. I think we are sadists within.

    @Kiran : Thanks. Yes, all our prayers are with them.

    @Oxy : No. I am not proud to be an Indian.

    @Ish : Thanks. Yes its sad and the common man is helpless.

    Brilliantly written post! It is a sad reality indeed.

    “@Oxy: no. I am not proud to be an Indian” – Sheesh, are you sure? Let’s not generalize the acts of a few b******* to everyone in our country and feel ashamed. Maybe we need to step back and look at everything that makes India, India.

    @Sherley: You are smarter than you give yourself credit for ๐Ÿ˜‰

    @Shivya : Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚
    No. I am not generalizing this act at all. Its just that I don’t like the way we treat each other. There is no respect and there is a constant thought that the other person is a thug.
    Why is that we need a bomb blast to bring us together?

    @Devaki : Thanks and Welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

    A very touching post Amit.

    These things are disturbing but what is worst is the knowledge that this could have been averted. I was reading somewhere that around 20 days back Guj govt had warned Delhi govt & the central govt about these planned attacks.

    But nothing was done. Our lives are so cheap that politicians are busy fighting amongst themselves and terrorists think that by killing us they can hold to government to ransom. High time they realised that we are not valued here. What is the sacrifice of few more lives.

    @Smita : The Government agencies are always tipped off about the blasts. The problem is that they take it all very lightly. Nothing happened even after the attack on Parliament.

    @Swapneel : Welcome! I don’t agree with you that we are a part of all this as voters. All this happens because of lack of co-ordination and pro-activeness of the Intellegence agencies. Do you think all this would have been averted if we as voters would have chosen a different government?

    “Too much of a brain is a bad thing, I guess”. There is a proverb in Tamil that says “Adhigam Aanal Amirthamum Nanju” (Even the divine liquid – which makes you live for ever, becomes a poison when taken in excess quantities). Somehow, we see the positive sides of Science but fail to see the glaring negative sides. If a race can make AK47’s and term it a discovery and scientific achievement, then it has to take the brunt of it too. After all, the bullets know no language, race, religion or nations!

      Yes, as they say, if your tea has less sugar, you can add more. But if there is excessive sugar, you will spit it out. If human race is given a choice between becoming more technologically advanced and going back to the stone age, I would definitely go for the latter. Atleast then, we would be just killing animals to fill our stomach.

    Seems like you dont know much about pigeons….
    Let me give you a bit of gyaan
    You said shirley saw a flash of light… well shirley can hear too.. she has very sensitive ears. She must have flewn away with her friends that moment out of fright.
    And pigeons do kill pigeons… that too baby pigeons….sad na
    They come and attack another pigeon’s nest, and if they get a chance they keep pricking the baby so as to kill it… dont know why…
    pigeons are very much like us humans…
    They are also insecure in a way.. If you observe pigeons in the evening, they will be in a row, but keep fussing about their space. If one pigeon comes a bit right, the pigeon on the right side will have problem and start fighting. Same for the left side…

    But still i love them a lot.. because they are stupid, naughty, innocent and last but not the least very cuuute!!
